Section One

Your NOVA Home Maintenance Calendar

Northern Virginia homes deal with freezing winters, wet springs, humid summers, falling leaves, and plenty of temperature swings. Use this calendar as a simple reminder of what to check throughout the year. Your home, equipment, and manufacturer recommendations may require a different schedule.

This checklist is a general homeowner reference. Follow manufacturer instructions and use qualified professionals when a task requires specialized inspection, repair, electrical, plumbing, roofing, HVAC, or structural work.

Section Two

Section Three

Before You Renovate, Know Why You’re Doing It

The right project depends on your home, your budget, how long you plan to stay, and what you may want to do next. A renovation can improve daily life, prepare a home for sale, solve deferred maintenance, or do all three. The goal is to make the decision before the spending starts.

How long do you think you will stay in your home?

Pick a timeline to see where to focus first.

Thinking a move could happen in the next 6 to 12 months?

Danielle has a step-by-step pre-market preparation plan designed to help homeowners start earlier and make better decisions before the listing process begins.

Ask About the 6-Month Seller Prep Plan

Kitchen

Before a full remodel, decide whether the real issue is layout, storage, surfaces, appliances, lighting, or appearance. A smaller refresh may solve the problem.

Bathrooms

Focus on water issues, ventilation, worn finishes, lighting, storage, and function before choosing cosmetic changes.

Flooring

Consistency, condition, and repairability matter. Consider the age and condition of nearby flooring before replacing one isolated area.

Paint

Paint can change a room quickly, but color should be chosen based on how long you plan to stay and whether a sale is approaching.

Exterior and Landscaping

Drainage, roof condition, exterior maintenance, entry appearance, and landscaping often affect both daily ownership and a future buyer's first impression.

Major Systems

Roofing, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, waterproofing, and water damage should be evaluated based on condition and safety before cosmetic work.

This guide does not promise a specific return on any renovation. Project cost, market conditions, home condition, buyer expectations, workmanship, and timing all matter. Get project-specific advice before making a major investment.

Have a Home Question?

You do not need to be buying or selling to ask. If you are deciding whether to repair something, renovate, call a contractor, start planning a move, or simply want a second opinion, ask Danielle.
